Enforcing Higher levels of detail in textures

The project I'm working on keeps having as visual problem where textures with alpha channels have an ugly texturing effect the further they get. Is it possible to enforce higher levels of detail in specific objects no matter how far away from the viewer they are? As a side note, none of the textures I'm using are TOO graphically intensive, I'm more than sure I can afford to have selective textures permanently be higher quality.
